Diabetes and feet.
Diabetes causes over 150 amputations a week in the UK many of which are avoidable. (Source Diabetes UK)
Did you know seeing a podiatrist for an annual foot check can help identify and address any problems you may have?
Diabetes can affect you feet because of raised blood sugar levels, circulatory problems and a lack of feeling (neuropathy).
At your foot check we will check your medical/foot history, what medication you take and your footwear. We will examine your feet for any signs of deformity or pathology, and perform a thorough neurovascular assessment. We will discuss the results with you and how best to look after your feet moving forward. We will also provide you and your GP (with your permission) a written copy of the assessment too.
This can be done as a separate appointment or as part of an extended routine appointment if you attend clinic regularly.
